Brent Marks wins FMSA feature at East Bay Raceway
Tom Sherrill Florida Short Track Report 2-11-08
The Florida Mini Sprint Association came back to East Bay Raceway for two more nights of racing to finish their Shootout /Winternationals series. After three nights at East Bay and three nights at Hendry County Speedway it was time again to race. The night was perfect for racing with a chill in the air and a good surface for the nineteen car field.
The first heat went to Mike Dransfield with Tyler Reddick winning the second heat and Lex Burritt taking the win in the third heat the line-up for the feature was set. Before the feature race East Bay gave some of the drivers a chance to run in the Strawberry Dash. Racing for Strawberries was all the incentive that Dan Dunigan needed as he claimed victory winning the Dash and getting all the strawberries.
The feature started with Jesse Teed and Brock Zearfoss making up the front row. Brock jump out to the lead fast but Jesse came back on the fourth lap to take the point. By lap five Lex Burritt had moved into the lead and was not looking back. On the tenth lap there was a two car spin in turn four that brought out the yellow flag.
On the restart Tyler Reddick made his move and found himself in second with Brent Marks following in third. Another yellow flag on lap fourteen bunched the cars back up for the restart with Burritt leading Marks and Reddick to the green flag they were off and racing hard.
Burritt had pulled out and away from the group but on lap seventeen his car broke loose in turn four and it was clear that something was wrong with his car. This gave the lead to Reddick who had his hands full with Bren Marks right on his tail.
On lap twenty two a car spun in turn four bringing out the yellow. Lex Burritt pulled to the infield proving that there was a problem with his car. They lined back up with Reddick on the point followed by Marks and Zearfoss. On the restart Reddick missed a shift and that was all Brent Marks needed to take the lead. Brent sailed off to victory from there with Zearfoss and Andrew Griffin making the top three and Wesley Gordon and Jesse Teed rounded out the top five.
Brent Marks had fought hard all night and it paid off for him in the end. Brent hand a strong run with the Florida Mini Sprint Association during the Shootout/Winternationals making the folks in Myerstown Pennsylvanian proud.
